For VR Counselors who treat clients struggling with claustrophobia, virtual reality can offer multiple benefits.
A client with claustrophobia often tends to avoid using elevators, but in VR, though convincing, a client is aware that physically, they are still in a comfortable environment they feel safe in. This makes it easier to get used to and practice with the experience of elevators.
If you have a camera connected to your computer, you can visually guide your client through the experience. You can also cause a technical problem, completely shutting down the elevator and, fortunately, just as easily fix what you’ve caused.
